Manikarnika Ghat is the most prominent and ancient cremation ghat in Varanasi.

On average, 80 to 100 funeral pyres are lit daily at Manikarnika Ghat.

– On special occasions like festivals, Amavasya (new moon), or Purnima (full moon), the number can rise to 150 to 200 pyres in a day.

Cremations continue 24 hours a day, non-stop — the ghat is never closed, which is why it's also known as the "Eternal Flame Ghat."

The sacred fire has been burning continuously for thousands of years, and it is believed that it was lit by Lord Shiva himself. – –
