Mother of Jailed Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Shot Dead in Punjab; Bambiha Gang Claims Responsibility

Who Is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria?

Harjit Kaur, mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Batala on Thursday night. The fatal incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Qadian Road, where she was traveling with a relative, Karanveer Singh. Both were critically injured in the attack and later succumbed to their injuries at Batala Civil Hospital in Amritsar.

The attackers, who fled the scene on a motorbike, are yet to be identified. According to DSP Paramveer Singh, several police teams have been formed to track down the suspects. “A case has been registered, and the investigation is on. The motive appears linked to inter-gang rivalry,” he said.

A social media account claiming to represent the Davinder Bambiha gang has taken responsibility for the attack. The post alleged that the actual target was Karanveer Singh, whom they accused of managing operations for the Bhagwanpuria gang.

Who Was Harjit Kaur?

Harjit Kaur was a resident of Bhagwanpur village and had earlier served as a member of the village panchayat. Her identity gained wider public attention due to her son’s criminal background. She was not known to be involved in any illegal activities.

Who Is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria?

Jagdeep Singh, better known as Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, is one of Punjab’s most notorious gangsters, currently in custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. He was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act in March 2025 and subsequently transferred from Bathinda Central Jail to Silchar Jail in Assam due to security and operational concerns.

With over 120 cases against him, including charges of murder, extortion, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking, Bhagwanpuria is regarded as a high-risk criminal. He also has reported ties with international criminal networks in Canada, the US, and Pakistan. Authorities believe his criminal ecosystem enabled continued operations despite incarceration.

Law enforcement officials have described him as a mentor to Lawrence Bishnoi, another high-profile gangster involved in the Moosewala case.

Who is the Davinder Bambiha Gang?

The Davinder Bambiha gang is one of Punjab’s most active and deadly criminal groups, often engaged in violent turf wars with rival syndicates such as the Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gangs.

The gang is named after its founder Davinder Singh, alias Bambiha, who was killed in a police encounter in 2016. Since his death, his gang members have continued to operate under his name, primarily through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, where they openly claim responsibility for attacks and warn rivals.

Their criminal activities include:

  • Contract killings
  • Arms smuggling
  • Extortion from businessmen and celebrities
  • Gang rivalry-fueled murders

The gang claims to fight against injustice and corruption, often presenting themselves as vigilantes. However, law enforcement agencies classify them as an organized crime syndicate responsible for numerous high-profile killings across Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

The ongoing feud between the Bambiha gang and the Bhagwanpuria-Bishnoi alliance has resulted in several murders over the past few years, with police attributing many contract killings to this escalating gang war.

Gang War Intensifies in Punjab

The murder of Harjit Kaur appears to be the latest chapter in an increasingly violent rivalry between Punjab’s top crime syndicates. As the Davinder Bambiha gang publicly takes credit for the hit, police are now bracing for possible retaliation from the Bhagwanpuria faction.

Investigations are ongoing, with security being tightened around gang-affiliated inmates and their known associates across the state.
