Mahindra has always been at the forefront of India’s SUV segment, thanks to popular models like the Scorpio, XUV700, Bolero, and the rugged Thar. Recently, the spotlight has shifted to its compact SUV — the XUV 3XO, known for its spacious cabin, premium features, and strong road presence. Now, Mahindra has made headlines by slashing the price of the XUV 3XO by a staggering ₹4 lakh. But before you get too excited, there’s a twist in the story.
Mahindra XUV 3XO Launched in Australia at Lower Price
The big price drop isn’t happening in India, but in Australia, where Mahindra has officially introduced the XUV 3XO as its most affordable SUV yet in that market. The SUV will be available in two variants only: AX5 L and AX7 L. It has been priced at AUD 23,490, which is approximately ₹13.18 lakh. Compared to its price in India, this marks a reduction of up to ₹4 lakh.
Despite the price cut, the design and overall appeal of the XUV 3XO remain unchanged for the Australian version. This pricing strategy makes the XUV 3XO a strong value-for-money offering for Australian buyers and a strategic move by Mahindra to strengthen its international presence.

Competing in a New Market
With this launch, Mahindra is targeting the competitive compact SUV segment in Australia. The XUV 3XO will go up against well-established models like the Mazda CX-3, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Stonic. While Mahindra already sells models like the XUV700, Scorpio-N, and S11 4X4 Pikup in Australia, the XUV 3XO will cater to buyers looking for a stylish and affordable SUV with premium features.
However, not all features and options from the Indian version have made it to the Australian market. For example, the AX7 L variant in Australia won’t be available in the Stealth Black colour.
Same Look, Slightly Trimmed Powertrain
In terms of design, Mahindra has retained the Indian styling of the XUV 3XO for the Australian market. But under the hood, there’s a key difference: only the 1.2-litre turbo petrol MPFi engine will be offered. This motor generates around 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque — adequate for daily driving needs.
Unlike the Indian version, which comes with multiple engine options, the Australian model won’t have the TGDi (129 bhp, 230 Nm) engine or the 1.5-litre diesel (115 bhp, 300 Nm) variant. The absence of these options might be due to market-specific demand and emission norms.
Still Loaded with Premium Features
Despite being more affordable in Australia, Mahindra has not compromised on the feature list. The XUV 3XO will continue to offer a rich list of equipment similar to the Indian model. This includes:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Dual 10.25-inch screens (infotainment + digital cluster)
- Level 2 ADAS safety features
- 360-degree surround camera
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Premium interior materials
These features ensure that the SUV stands out not only for its pricing but also for its tech-loaded, family-friendly cabin.
Mahindra XUV 3XO in India vs. Australia: Price Comparison
In India, the XUV 3XO is priced between ₹9.37 lakh and ₹18.75 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), depending on the variant and engine choice. The price difference when compared to the Australian variant can go up to ₹4 lakh. However, the lack of engine options and colour choices in Australia might justify this lower price tag.
Final Take: Great Deal for Aussies, But Not a Price Cut in India
The ₹4 lakh price reduction is exclusive to Australian buyers, making the XUV 3XO a great bargain in that region. For Indian buyers, prices remain unchanged, but the global expansion signals Mahindra’s confidence in its compact SUV to perform well internationally.
So, if you were hoping for a cheaper XUV 3XO in India — you’ll have to wait. But Mahindra’s aggressive pricing and expansion show that the brand is aiming big in the global SUV market.
