Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori is facing a major personal and public setback after reports emerged alleging a long-term extramarital affair with model Azuki Oguchi. The former world No. 4 and current No. 61 is said to have been involved with Oguchi since 2022, according to Japanese media sources.

The scandal has made headlines across Japan, particularly after Nishikori was reportedly seen visiting Oguchi’s apartment on June 11, 2025. The pair allegedly first met in Hawaii, where they reportedly grew close.
In response to the revelations, Nishikori issued a public apology that drew widespread attention. “I sincerely apologize for the discomfort and concern I have caused my supporters, tennis fans, tennis associations, sponsors, and all parties involved due to my dishonest behavior,” he stated.
He continued, “I deeply regret the pain I’ve caused my wife, our children, and our families. Moving forward, I am committed to living responsibly and will focus entirely on tennis and delivering results. We will do our best to regain your trust.”
Kei Nishikori recently withdrew from Wimbledon, a decision that coincided with the news of the affair becoming public.
Kei Nishikori married his longtime partner, Mai Yamauchi, in December 2020. The couple, who have been together since 2015, share two children.
Throughout his career, Nishikori has been a trailblazer in Japanese and Asian tennis. He reached a career-high world ranking of No. 4, won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics by defeating Rafael Nadal, and was the runner-up at the 2014 US Open. He is the only Japanese man in the Open Era to have reached the ATP top five and has 12 ATP Tour titles to his name. He also made it to the semifinals of the ATP Finals in both 2014 and 2016.
