Bengaluru Architecture Student Dies by Suicide, Alleges Ragging in Heartbreaking Final Video

Bengaluru | July 22, 2025 — In a deeply tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s academic community, a 21-year-old architecture student in Bengaluru allegedly died by suicide on Monday, after posting a chilling final video in which he accused his seniors of relentless ragging and mental harassment.

The student, identified as Arjun M., was in his third year at a reputed private architecture college located in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka area. The final video, now circulating widely on social media, has raised serious concerns about the prevalence of ragging and the failure of institutional safeguards.

“They Broke Me Mentally” – Arjun’s Final Words

In the emotional video recorded just hours before his death, Arjun named multiple seniors and alleged that he had been mentally tortured for months. He described episodes of humiliation, bullying, and isolation by fellow students, saying:

The 3-minute clip was shared with close friends before Arjun reportedly jumped from the terrace of his hostel building. He was found unresponsive and declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

Police Register FIR, Ragging Accused Under Investigation

The Bengaluru Police have registered an FIR under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Karnataka Education Act and UGC Anti-Ragging Guidelines. At least four students named in the video have been identified and are being questioned.

“We have recovered the student’s phone and verified the video. The investigation is underway, and those found guilty will face strict legal action,” said DCP (North) Vinay Prabhu.

College Faces Backlash for Alleged Inaction

The college administration has come under heavy criticism after students claimed they had previously reported incidents of ragging but no concrete action was taken. Several student groups staged a protest outside the campus, demanding a transparent probe and suspension of the accused seniors.

“This is not the first case. Many of us have suffered, but the college just wants to protect its reputation,” said a student, on condition of anonymity.

The institution released a brief statement expressing grief over the incident and promised full cooperation with the authorities.

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Takes Note

The NCPCR and UGC anti-ragging cell have taken suo moto cognizance of the case. A fact-finding team is expected to visit the campus later this week.
