An Air India flight operating from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 had to be rerouted to Riyadh following a bomb threat, the airline confirmed in a statement on Sunday.
The Tata Group-owned airline noted that the aircraft landed safely in Riyadh, where thorough security checks were conducted. “All passengers have disembarked without any issues and are being accommodated in hotels,” the statement added.
Air India also mentioned that efforts are underway to make alternate travel arrangements for the affected passengers to reach their final destinations from Riyadh.
In the aftermath of the tragic aircraft crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, Air India has proactively introduced stricter pre-flight safety inspections and temporarily scaled down its operations to ensure better service stability.
“Despite our best intentions, external challenges like restricted airspace in the Middle East, nighttime curfews at several European and East Asian airports, air traffic congestion, and occasional technical issues may lead to flight delays or cancellations,” the airline clarified.
The carrier emphasized that these unforeseen circumstances can sometimes result in last-minute changes to flight operation
